Why people stay in Mlini
Mlini is a low-key beach village between Dubrovnik and Cavtat, built around a small stream (mlini means 'mills') that once powered flour mills at the water. Today it's a strip of small hotels and holiday apartments along maybe 800 metres of shore, three pebble beaches, and the 12th-century parish church of Sv. Ilar right on the promenade. Nothing much happens here — that's the appeal.
This suits families who want a resort-style Croatia holiday without the resort price tag: half-board at the Hotel Astarea for $140 a night in July, kids swim in the shallow bay, dinner on the promenade at $18 for a plate of grilled sardines. Skip Mlini if you want to walk into town in the evening — the bus is your only realistic option, and it's a 25-minute ride. The coastal path to Cavtat is a beautiful 3km stroll though.
The Hotel Astarea and Hotel Mlini on the seafront sit at $140-$220 half-board in summer. Family apartments on Šetalište Marka Marojice and up the hillside go for $80-$120 with kitchens and small terraces. Avoid rooms directly on the D8 highway — heavy traffic all summer. The prime spots are the older stone houses in the small original village core near the church, harder to find on booking sites but $100-$140 for character and quiet.

Getting around Mlini
Bus 10 (Cavtat-Dubrovnik) stops at Mlini every 30-60 minutes, $3, taking 25 minutes to Pile or 15 minutes to Cavtat. From the airport, taxi $25 or bus 10 with a change at Čilipi. Parking on the seafront is metered $2 an hour; free on the residential streets uphill. Walking to Cavtat is 40 minutes on the coastal path, walking to Dubrovnik is not realistic — take the bus.

Probably yes. No bars, one small nightclub in the neighbouring hotel, dinner ends at 10pm. Great for families and older couples, less so for a first-time romantic city break.
